Be custom

Uncategorized Aug 09, 2016

When you created your profile with LinkedIn, you were provided a URL that you could point people to your public profile online.  Your public profile is what people see when they to to this link and they are not logged into LinkedIn.

The importance of having a custom URL for LinkedIn (or any social network) shouldn’t be underestimated. Especially for anyone who wants to promote their profile, by adding their custom URL/web address to their email signature, business card, marketing materials, etc.

The URL (or web address) assigned to you by LinkedIn is not easy to remember and share, in print or verbally.

A custom URL will help to increase the overall visibility of your LinkedIn account and will make it easier for you to share how to find you on LinkedIn.

Most of us would find this custom LinkedIn profile URL – linkedin.com/in/stacymaynard – more professional looking and easier to share with others, as opposed to this address – http://ca.linkedin.com/in/firstname-lastname-31003214

Don’t be a number… Be Unique!  This is your PERSONAL Brand.

LinkedIn encourages you to “enhance your personal brand by creating a custom URL for your LinkedIn public profile.”

Creating an easy to remember LinkedIn public profile URL for your LinkedIn profile is an important part of making it easy for people to find you online.

Just below your picture is a link url with a gear icon beside it.

When you click that, it takes you to screen to edit your Public Profile where you can enhance your personal brand.  This is where you can customize your public profile URL and control how you appear when people search for your name on google.  I like to show everything on my public profile.

I would recommend that you use your name if you can, however, they are on a first come, first served basis.  If your name is not available, you will need to consider other options like a middle initial, a middle name, or some other unique identifier that is logical and will be easy to remember and share, in print and verbally.

Once you have your public profile URL (web address) setup for your LinkedIn account, use it everywhere! On your business cards, your email signature, your other social networking sites and any marketing material.

Action:  Happy Customizing!  Customize your public profile URL and post a link to it on the Facebook Group.

Now that you have started connecting with people and have customized your URL, it’s time to Be Found on Day 10.
