I didn't expect THIS to happen.

Something happened I didn't expect...

I have been working with clients for over 6 years now on their social media strategies, accounts and training them how to use social channels to grow their business.

I have had an opportunity to get to know who they are, the passion behind their business and even their personal lives because of the information they share during our sessions.  This is the part that I love about my job. Truly getting to know the person behind the business.  Just when I thought I was really getting to know them…  I wasn’t getting to know them as much as I thought I was.

Then this happened… LinkedIn Profiles... I get to know more about the person then just their business self.

As I mentioned, the part of my job that I love the most is really getting to know the person behind the business. While working on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram I get to know their business self and only what they share about their personal self....

Incredible Online Strangers

You never know who you are going to meet, especially online.  One of the most amazing things I love about Social Media, especially LinkedIn, is how much of other people's network you get to see.  When you "like" a post, it goes out to your network that you have "liked" a specific post and they can then see the post and like or comment on it.

"You never know who you are doing to meet!"

Yesterday, a post came across my feed that one of my connections had "liked".  It was from an Autism Mom from the UK.  She expressed how she was finally sharing her story of her almost adult son with Autism and shared his accomplishments.  As a fellow Autism Mom, I liked and commented on the post with words of encouragement and gratitude.  Then I decided to take it one step further.  I reached out to her and requested to connect with her.  She didn't know who I was so I explained in my connection request (we always personalize our connection requests,...

Why I LOVE LinkedIn

Uncategorized May 09, 2016

I admit it!  I love LinkedIn!  I've known him (or her…) for a really long time and he's always seemed like the serious older brother of the Social Media space.  He's not as flashy as the other Social Media stars but he does make headlines! To me he's the one you should be taking advatage of.

I like his professionalism! I like the way you have to ask others permission to connect.  He's just right for business. I get easily distracted by all of the shiny new social media platforms out there that are more fun.  The other social media platforms have it going on with their fun face filters and new ways to communicate.  However, when you are talking business, LinkedIn is the number one platform you need to be on. He (or she) is well-informed, professional and there is no better way to communicate than with other people who are professionals. I even coined it was "sexy" when I created the One Red Lipstick “Get Noticed - Breakthrough tips...

Power of Attraction and Social Media

Uncategorized Mar 06, 2016

“Often times, we’ll manifest something and not even realize it.”

It is interesting how social media and the law of attraction are so similar. Afterall, social media is all about attracting like minded individuals and businesses to build your network. I think the misconception is that social media is more about personal interests than business interests. This is where the law of attraction kicks in. If you think social media is all about personal interests, than you will most likely treat it this way and your social media efforts will yield results that are more personal…based on your interests. However, if you want to leverage social media to grow your business, than this is exactly what will result.

It all comes back to one simple principle; the content you publish will attract the audience you are trying to reach. If you want to talk about what you ate and where you are, there are people online that not only care about this, but will also want to connect...

Are you listening? I mean really listening… when you meet someone?

Uncategorized Mar 06, 2016

Have you met this person?  They focus on their own topic and what only matters to them. And when they do listen, they are only unilateral listeners. They know what they want to hear and what they have to say is all that matters when you talk with them.  They think the world revolves around them.

I’m sure everyone has met the “ It’s all about me” individual. They can be fun to hang out with, but you sigh when they come by wondering what story or sales pitch they have for you today. They are always self-preoccupied and it gets boring…

Each and everyday, people go onto Social Media with their own agenda. They meet people online and forget to listen. They talk and talk and talk some more thinking about what they are going to say to get their point across and how they are going to sell their products/services.

Seriously? Who are they talking to?  Have they tried listening?

Real communities are built on trust, open communication, sharing,...

Automation downfall: Disconnect to Reconnect

Uncategorized Mar 06, 2016

Automating social profiles to share content across multiple channels with a single post is often used to streamline distribution and save time. But sharing content with your community isn’t just about you. It’s about the value that your followers receive. If you have your Facebook Page connected to your Twitter account so that every post you share on Facebook is also shared on Twitter, you run the risk of your message getting cut off when it reaches 140 char…

Well, you get the point. If you’re using Twitter to promote your business and interact with customers, be real and show them that you care enough to craft a message just for them. Yes, it can be a challenge to fit your message, photo, link, etc. into 140 characters, but when you take the extra minute or three to write specifically for Twitter, your followers will notice. Your content and message gain credibility, and your engagement will likely grow as a result.

Be Your Authentic Self

Uncategorized Mar 06, 2016

Being genuine counts for a lot in the Social Media world.  Let you personality show through and it will help add the human element to your content. After all, it is ‘SOCIAL’ Media.

Below are a few things to keep in mind when getting more personal with your posts.

1 – Breathe. Especially if you have having an emotional minute (good or bad) at the time you compose your message. Take a breather to consider any consequences. Too many times people regret as soon as they hit that submit button.

2 – Acknowledge. If someone is taking the time to comment, like or share you post, show them your appreciation. Otherwise they may think you never noticed.

3 – Keep it clean. There is no need for derogatory or foul language and/or compromising photos. Think about your  reputation before you share photos that show you, or your company, in a bad light. If you feel the need for that make another account that is not tied to your image and have at it.

Can you “Let It Be”?

Uncategorized Mar 06, 2016

The Beatles have quoted “Let it Be” for years. This worked very well for them considering the popularity of this song. They knew their audience. Loved The Beatles!!!

That was 1970 and this is 2016.  Letting it be can be a detriment to your business if your online presence is not kept up to date.  What if you found a great offer or service, you were ready to sign up and noticed their blog was 3 years out of date? What about their Facebook page or Twitter account?  Would you question if they were still in business?  Of course you would.  I know I would… In this fast-paced world, we would move on to the next business or find someone else.  There are many individuals offering the same or similar products/services and you need to stay in front of them if you want to increase and maintain your online presence.

I was asked today if setting up an account and then “let it be” would be good for online visibility.  I...
